St. Raphael the Archangel Church Brings Blessing and Honor to God

Sept. 29 is the universal feast day of archangels Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. This year it also marks the second anniversary of the cornerstone blessing of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church by Cardinal Francis George of Chicago.

St. Raphael the Archangel Church will look like magnificent traditional churches of old because two beautiful but now-closed Chicago churches are providing much of the exterior and interior elements.

This new edifice is rising on 150 acres in the village of Old Mill Creek in Lake County, Ill. The church sits on the major thoroughfare of Route 45 near the Wisconsin border.

Among his several patronages, as the Book of Tobit confirms, St. Raphael is the patron of travelers and of happy meetings. In this case, it can apply to the happy meeting of this edifice with features from St. John of God and St. Peter Canisius parishes, which are traveling 60 miles north to create this new church with old elements.

This trio?s happy meeting began five years ago, when St. Raphael ? the first new parish formed in the Chicago Archdiocese since 1999 ? had its first Mass in a barn-turned-temporary chapel.

"I thought St. Raphael would be a very fine patron," founding pastor Father John Jamnicky says.

Father Jamnicky is no stranger to ministering to people on the move. In his priesthood, he has served as chaplain of Chicago O?Hare International Airport and as national director of the Apostleship of the Sea at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Cardinal George appointed him not only as founding pastor of this new parish but also as chaplain for nearby Waukegan Regional Airport and the maritime ministries of Lake County.

?

1 Parish From 2

Once the twin steeples of this magnificent church are completely re-assembled to their 140-foot height, they are anticipated to be the tallest structures in Lake County. The steeples came from St. John of God Church in Chicago.

Father Jamnicky salvaged furnishings and artifacts from churches that were closing in the archdiocese for inclusion in St. Raphael?s temporary chapel.

"We got the idea ? maybe we could do this for the permanent church," Father Jamnicky adds. "So many things were neglected and being destroyed that are part of the patrimony of the Church."

St. John of God was one of the closed edifices in the archdiocese. Built in 1918 on Chicago?s South Side as a Polish parish, it was closed for nearly 20 years.

With the cardinal?s permission, Father Jamnicky had engineers inspect the building and its distinctive Renaissance beauty. The side walls were not great, and the roof was caving. But the magnificent limestone stone facade, twin steeples, four rotundas, narthex, rose window, porticos, doors, hardware and more were in good condition. Disassembly and reassembly in Old Mill Creek seemed possible ? all for only $2 million.

This is a chance at a new life for St. John of God ? which was named one of the most beautiful churches in Chicago; it was designed by architect Henry Schlacks, founder of the architecture department at the University of Notre Dame.

Also having a chance for a new life is St. Peter Canisius Church on Chicago?s North Avenue. Opened in 1935, the parish closed in 2007.

"Again, it was providential," Father Jamnicky says. "The interior was shaped just like St. John of God. Everything was in perfect condition."

Now, St. Raphael?s is receiving St. Peter?s beautiful Italian marble main and side altars, reredos and arches, as well as all the marble statuary, lovely oak pews with graceful Romanesque arched tops, and the superlative Tyrolean stained-glass windows from Innsbruck, Austria.

The hand of Providence is evident everywhere in this endeavor. Three bells graced only one of the original limestone steeples, but Father Jamnicky wanted bells in both steeples. Then he learned of another Chicago church whose unstable steeple had to be razed. It had three bells, so he bought them.

Then the business manager overseeing construction told the priest: "You can?t just put three bells together with three others because they have to be tuned together; otherwise, their sounds will clash."

Bell experts weighed in. Father Jamnicky shared their report: "If you were buying six new bells, you could not have purchased a more perfect combination. These six bells together will ring like Westminster chimes."

Again, God?s providence was at work in other areas, including the new cornerstone.

"It is the main great stone holding up the church," the pastor says. "It has theological meaning and symbolism to it." He looked at St. John of God?s immense cornerstone, which wasn?t supposed to fit. Carved in Latin, the stone proclaims: "Built for the Greater Honor and Glory of God, 1918."

Then a solution appeared. Didn?t St. Raphael provide a solution to both Sarah?s and Tobit?s overwhelming problems? Now that cornerstone makes up a double one ? half of St. John?s is the foundation, and on top of it sits a second cornerstone carved with the name St. Raphael the Archangel and the date of blessing, Sept. 29, 2010.

"We?re building upon the faith of the St. John of God Church community as we?re building the new church of St. Raphael the Archangel," says Father Jamnicky.

Divine providence at work in this project also reflects Raphael?s words in Tobit 12:6: "Bless God and give him thanks before all the living for the good things he has done for you, by blessing and extolling his name in song. Proclaim before all with due honor the deeds of God, and do not be slack in thanking him."

Many former parishioners from St. John of God and St. Peter Canisius were at the cornerstone blessing to see their former churches being renewed this way.

?

New and Old

The exterior side walls of flat stone are new, but built with foresight for future expansion of the present 900-seat capacity church. Already, the parish has nearly 600 families.

Father Jamnicky envisions that the walls can be expanded with wings ? "the wings of St. Raphael."

Besides the main shrine altars to our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, there will be side shrines to St. Raphael and St. John the Baptist.

Plans call for an enormous statue of St. Raphael the Archangel on the piazza, along with statues of the other six archangels (see Tobit 12:15) on colonnades.

"This project from the beginning, including purchase of land, should end up at $14 million," says Father Jamnicky. "Now we have to raise money to complete the job."

Because of the national prominence, the pastor hopes for donations from people around the country who want to help preserve magnificent churches for future generations. He hopes this effort will be a model for other dioceses. Approximately $4 million is needed to complete the major phase in time for the dedication and consecration by Cardinal George scheduled for Sept. 29, 2013.

"We?re going to see the parish grow because people want to come here," says Jean Mulroney, a founding parishioner. "They appreciate what we?re doing. It?s a very traditional feeling ? what I remember growing up. It?s going to be a masterpiece."

As St. Raphael put it in Tobit 12:11, "One must declare the works of God with due honor." This church surely will.

When your eyes tell your hands what to think: You're far less in control of your brain than you think

ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2012) ? You've probably never given much thought to the fact that picking up your cup of morning coffee presents your brain with a set of complex decisions. You need to decide how to aim your hand, grasp the handle and raise the cup to your mouth, all without spilling the contents on your lap.

A new Northwestern University study shows that, not only does your brain handle such complex decisions for you, it also hides information from you about how those decisions are made.

"Our study gives a salient example," said Yangqing 'Lucie' Xu, lead author of the study and a doctoral candidate in psychology at Northwestern. "When you pick up an object, your brain automatically decides how to control your muscles based on what your eyes provide about the object's shape. When you pick up a mug by the handle with your right hand, you need to add a clockwise twist to your grip to compensate for the extra weight that you see on the left side of the mug.

"We showed that the use of this visual information is so powerful and automatic that we cannot turn it off. When people see an object weighted in one direction, they actually can't help but 'feel' the weight in that direction, even when they know that we're tricking them," Xu said.

The researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, people were asked to grasp a vertical stick with a weight hanging from its left or right side. People easily reported which side they felt the weight was on, even when they had their eyes closed.

The researchers then used a set of mirrors to occasionally flip the view of the object so that it looked like the weight was on the left, when actually it was on the right. And although people were told to report on which side they felt the weight (with their hands), the visual image strongly influenced the direction that they felt the weight was coming from, especially when the weights were lighter.

In the second experiment, the researchers tried harder to convince people to ignore the visual information by carefully explaining the nature of the "trick."

"People still could not ignore the visual information," said Xu. "In fact, the effect even works on us, and we designed the experiment!"

Steven Franconeri, co-author of the study and associate professor of cognitive psychology at Northwestern, said the brain is constantly making decisions for us that we don't know about or understand.

"These decisions are usually smart and based on vast experience," he said. "In this study's example, your brain is automatically using visual information to tell your hands what they are feeling. We can show that these decisions are happening by manipulating the information your brain receives -- we mirror-reverse the visual information and your brain now tells your hands that they are feeling the reverse of what they are actually feeling. This inference is mandatory -- you feel it even if you know it's not true."

Franconeri said this is not a "bug" in the brain's operation.

"In the vast majority of cases, you want to 'delegate' decisions like this to the unconscious parts of your brain, leaving you free to focus on less straightforward problems, like following driving directions or enjoying your cup of coffee."

Tracy and Scott: Home Improvement and Quilting

?Hooray!!! Our new windows and front door were installed on Tuesday! Here's the big window in our family room. The sill and some of the siding was a bit rotten so now it's all primed and ready for paint if it ever stops raining!

And I'm glad that none of you out there has to look at what WAS the front door since I don't have a picture. It had a crazy plastic dog door and the ugliest handle/knob known to man. Plus it leaked when it rained and it was totally flat and plain (except for above mentioned dog accessory) which made all kinds of scratches and marks very obvious. Here's the new one, yay! Luckily the sidelights/frame/brick molding were all fine so we just had to get the door itself.

We've made some progress painting the outside of the house, but we're thinking if any more painting needs to be done, we're going to hire someone. Painting sucks.

Here's my Totally Groovy quilt all quilted and ready for binding. I've trimmed it and attached the binding to the front now, so I'm in the process of hand sewing the binding to the back. I was all ready to try my first bias binding, but I was worried I didn't have enough fabric, so it's a straight-of-grain binding. Here's a link to some others' work on FLICKR. I'm thinking of hanging it up on the wall in our house. This was such a fun project.
And a few weeks ago, Scott and I got out for a night (thank you awesome neighbor for babysitting!!!!!!!) and got to see a film at the Atlantic Film Festival here in Halifax. We saw The Ambassador, which I quite enjoyed. After seeing it, we rented another of Mads Bruegger's documentaries, The Red Chapel, which I didn't like as much. It was a bit baffling, really. I especially liked Mads' boots in The Ambassador :)

Maggie Gyllenhaal in 'Won't Back Down' takes on public schools

'Won't Back Down': a?hot-button topic, but too many holes.

By Peter Rainer,?Film critic / September 28, 2012

?Won?t Back Down? is about two mothers who go up against a failing inner-city school in Pittsburgh, and it opens with the inevitable ?inspired by a true story? preamble. This is supposed to give the movie the patina of being ?more? than a movie, although it?s not clear what ?true story? it?s actually ?inspired? by. The film, directed and co-written by Daniel Barnz, is being positioned as an education-reform version of ?Norma Rae,? except here it?s the unions that get tarred.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is Jamie Fitzpatrick, a rowdy single mother who works two jobs and is fed up with the way her dyslexic 8-year-old daughter, Malia (Emily Alyn Lind), is being educated. Malia?s iPhone-toting instructor (Nancy Bach), who might as well be wearing a sign reading ?Bad Teacher,? explains to Jamie that union rules prevent her from helping Malia after class. Jamie?s attempts to get her daughter transferred to the class of Good Teacher Nona Alberts (Viola Davis), whose own son is failing in the school where she teaches, are stonewalled by the smirky school principal (Bill Nunn).

In desperation, Jamie spearheads a movement to create a new nonunion charter school by rounding up signatures from parents and teachers. Nona gradually gets with the program and, together with Jamie, rallies the troops for what is, in effect, an enactment of the much-touted ?parent trigger? law.

The failings of the education system in this country, for which there is plenty of blame to go around, are self-evident. ?Won?t Back Down? exploits an outrage that many in the audience experience on a daily basis. But the film?s clarion call, aided by terrific, full-out performances by Gyllenhaal and Davis, is hampered by simplifications and distortions. The film?s heart is certainly in the right place. Not so, always, its head.

This movie manifesto is based on a number of dubious or erroneous claims, starting with the idea that unions prevent teachers from giving their students extra help after class. Or that parent-trigger laws allow teachers to vote for their passage. This latter criticism is more than academic, since the crux of the film is about Jamie and Nona rounding up teachers to do the right thing.

It?s one thing to complain that a movie about, say, time travel, violates reason. But ?Won?t Back Down? (coproduced by Walden Media, also one of the producers of the pro-charter documentary ?Waiting for Superman?) is pushing real-world solutions, and so it needs to be looked at in real-world ways. One doesn?t have to be a barricade-manning union organizer or a board member of the American Federation of Teachers to recognize that the few attempts to enact a parent-trigger law in this country have been misfires, or that charter schools, statistically, do not do an appreciably better job of educating students.

The message of ?Won?t Back Down,? which doesn?t even feature so much as a PTA meeting, is that as concerned parents and citizens we can?t wait to figure this education mess out. We?ve got to start someplace. Students must be served first. The movie pays lip service to the countrywide ?pandemic of union busting,? to quote the film?s teachers union honcho (Ned Eisenberg), but there?s a dutiful quality to these pro-union interludes, as if they were in the movie to guarantee equal time. Holly Hunter, as another union executive, sympathizes with Jamie; her regretful eyes express nostalgia for a better time. Even Jamie?s ukelele-strumming Pied Piper-like teacher boyfriend (Oscar Isaac), a union stalwart, eventually sees the light.

Hollywood has never been the best arena to hash out policy debates. But social-issue movies can have real societal impact. That?s why ?Won?t Back Down,? which presses a lot of hot buttons, deserves to be taken seriously, and criticized seriously, on its own terms. Grade: B- (Rated PG for thematic elements and language.)

A target article in the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition concludes that evidence does not support the claims of Cogmed Working Memory Training- Additional experts weigh in with commentary papers in response

San Diego, CA, September 27, 2012 Helping children achieve their full potential in school is of great concern to everyone, and a number of commercial products have been developed to try and achieve this goal. The Cogmed Working Memory Training program (http://www.cogmed.com/) is such an example and is marketed to schools and parents of children with attention problems caused by poor working memory. But, does the program actually work? The target article in the September issue of Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition (JARMAC) calls into question Cogmed's claims of improving working memory and addressing underachievement due to working memory constraints.

The target article authors Zach Shipstead, Kenny L. Hicks, Randall W. Engle, all from the Georgia Institute of Technology, review the research that is used to back up the claims of Cogmed. They argue that many of the problem-solving or training tasks are not related to working memory, many of the attention tasks are unrelated to problems such as ADHD, and that there is limited transfer to real-life manifestations of inattentive behavior. They conclude succinctly: "The only unequivocal statement that can be made is that Cogmed will improve performance on tasks that resemble Cogmed training."

"People deserve to hear both sides of the story before they invest money in products like Cogmed," says lead author Zach Shipstead.

Not all researchers agree with the arguments of Shipstead et al. For instance, in one of the commentaries in reply, Torkel Klingberg of the Karolinska Instituet in Sweden states that "Shipstead et al criticizes these studies with three different arguments: [] None of these arguments holds."

Two commentary authors, Charles Hulme and Monica Melby-Lervg, who have previously questioned the evidence for Cogmed in a 2012 meta-analysis, and whose claims Cogmed directly address on their website, are firmly in support of the target article, and provide further meta-analysis in support of their shared conclusions with Shipstead et al.

"Having this debate in a scholarly journal is important because it provides scientists and the public with a more nuanced version of the truth, which percolates out of competing, evidence-based arguments," says Ronald Fisher, Editor-in-Chief of JARMAC, and professor of psychology at Florida International University.

Washington: A mother, father and two children were found dead Tuesday afternoon inside? their home outside the nation?s capital, and although police wouldn?t give? details on the cause, they said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Lucky Caldwell, a spokeswoman from the Fairfax County police, would not? discuss whether the case was a murder-suicide, but said that homicide detectives? are investigating and that there is no public safety threat.

Police officials did not immediately know the last time Fairfax County had? four dead from a single cause. In November 2000, four members of a Herndon? family died in their family home when a 47-year-old man shot his wife and two? young daughters before killing himself.

Yeardley Love's Mom Teams Up with JHU Expert on Domestic ...

In her interview with Katie Couric last week, Sharon Love said that she had ?no idea? that her daughter Yeardley?s relationship with boyfriend George Huguely was violent. Two years after her daughter?s death, Love and her daughter Lexie have teamed up with a Johns Hopkins expert on intimate partner violence to create a smartphone app to help determine whether a relationship is potentially abusive.

Jacquelyn Campbell is both a nurse and a domestic violence expert at Johns Hopkins; she points out that many parents and friends of people in troubled relationships assume that young women aren?t getting into anything they can?t handle. The One Love Danger Assessment app, which is designed primarily for women aged 16 to 26, asks questions about a partner?s drinking and physical aggression. There are also different versions for friends and family members who are concerned about a loved one?s relationship.

?Our normal tendency is to minimize the bad things that are happening to us so we can go on day to day,? Campbell says. ?You don?t want to dwell on the idea that you?re living with a dangerous person, even if the thought has crossed your mind.?

New law lets astronauts keep artifacts

America's early space pioneers and moon voyagers have now been confirmed as the legal owners of the equipment and spacecraft parts they saved as souvenirs from their missions.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday signed a bill into law granting NASA's Mercury, Gemini and Apollo crew members "full ownership rights" to the artifacts they received and retained more than 40 years ago.

The legislation (H.R. 4158) was authored in response to recent challenges raised by NASA's General Counsel and Office of Inspector General (OIG) over the attempted sale by several astronauts of their mementos. The issue came to a head in January after an inquiry by the space agency put a hold on the almost $400,000 auction of a checklist used by Apollo 13 commander James Lovell.

The bill clarifies what NASA Administrator Charles Bolden described as "fundamental misunderstandings and unclear policies."

"NASA is pleased ownership of flight mementos and other artifacts of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts is no longer in question," NASA spokesman Robert Jacobs said in a statement issued on Wednesday. "We appreciate the expeditious consideration by Congress to clarify ownership of these mementos and the patience of the astronauts, museums, learning institutions, and others who have these artifacts (from) the astronauts in personal and private collections." [ NASA's 17 Apollo Moon Missions in Pictures ]

Ambiguity over astronauts' artifacts
"This bill seeks to eliminate any further ambiguity about Apollo-era artifacts that were received by the astronauts. It simply says that astronauts who flew through the end of the Apollo program will be granted full right of ownership of any artifacts received from their missions," Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas), chairman of the House of Representatives' Science, Space and Technology Committee, said.

Hall, joined by ranking committee member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas), introduced the bill in March. It was passed by the House Sept. 19. The Senate approved the bill three days later during the pre-dawn hours of Sept. 22, prior to leaving on recess.

The question behind the legislation, if astronauts hold the rights to expendable space equipment ? including their checklists, personal hygiene kits, and items that, had they been left aboard the Apollo lunar module would have been crashed into the moon ? had gone largely uncontested by NASA until last year.

Then, in a series of challenges, including a lawsuit brought against Edgar Mitchell, who was the sixth man to walk on the moon, NASA counsel began to insist that if paperwork couldn't be produced documenting that the equipment had been released to the astronaut, then it was not legally his to own, donate or sell.

In Mitchell's case, the government sought the return of the data acquisition camera (DAC) that he saved from being destroyed on the moon. Ultimately, Mitchell settled out of court, agreeing to turn the camera over to the Smithsonian for its display.

NASA's General Counsel then raised questions about the title to artifacts sold in January by a Dallas auction house on behalf of James Lovell and Apollo 9 spacewalker Rusty Schweickart. One item in particular, a checklist that had been used to reconfigure the lunar module into a lifeboat on the periled Apollo 13 mission, made headlines after it sold for a record-setting $388,375.

Heritage Auction Galleries put the sale on hold after NASA challenged the astronauts' ownership. In response, Lovell, Schweickart and other Apollo astronauts met with Bolden at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., to defend their "good faith" actions.

The astronauts maintained that their managers had given them permission to keep the equipment at the time of their flights, but as the focus was on flying the missions, there was little, if any, documentation produced in support of the equipment being transferred to their property.

In the years since they flew, the astronauts donated many of the artifacts to museums and organizations, as well as sold items to collectors, which were at potential jeopardy if the legislation had not been passed.

Certain astronauts, certain artifact
The bill, which in its final form is about a third the length of this article, succinctly defines what type of items are to be considered artifacts and which astronauts are now granted ownership rights.

The legislation establishes the applicable artifacts as any equipment that was "not expressly required to be returned" to NASA at the completion of the mission, whether it was meant to be disposable, like a toothbrush, or was intended to be discarded on the moon, such as Mitchell's camera.

The bill doesn't apply to the mementos astronauts brought from Earth to fly as souvenirs in their personal preference kits, and it explicitly excludes "lunar rocks and other lunar material."

Nor are artifacts or astronauts from later space programs, like the shuttle or International Space Station, eligible. The bill limits its protections to the crew members of missions that launched between the first U.S. manned spaceflight, Mercury-Redstone 3, and the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975. [ 9 Weird Things Flown on Space Shuttles ]

Separate NASA policies, established in 1999, govern the use of equipment as mementos on the space shuttle and space station. It remains unclear what status now applies to astronauts and artifacts from the shuttle missions flown between 1981 and 1998.

Dunkin' Donuts to begin using cage free eggs

Dunkin' Donuts says it will start using cage-free eggs in its breakfast sandwiches and eliminate "gestation crates" from its pork supply chain.

The Canton, Mass.-based company said Wednesday that it will transition 5 percent of its eggs to cage-free by the end of next year; it did not set a timeline for completing the switch.

To determine a timeline for eliminating gestation crates, or breeding cages for pigs, the company said it will start by requiring its U.S. pork suppliers to outline their plans to achieve that goal.

Josh Balk, director of corporate policy at the Humane Society of the United States, said that's the first step for most companies that want to stop the use of gestation crates.

"There's been a massive trend by the largest pork buyers to demand their suppliers eliminate gestation crates," he noted.

Other major fast-food chains that have committed to eliminating use of pig crates include McDonald's Corp., Burger King Worldwide Inc., Wendy's and Subway, as well as several supermarket chains such as Kroger Co. and Safeway Inc.

Gestation crates often confine mother pigs for their entire lives, or about four years, Balk said. The space is usually so small that pigs can barely move.

"For as long as students go to high school, these pigs can't even turn around," he said.

Several companies have also said they will start using cage-free eggs, although the commitment levels vary.

Egg and pork producers have argued that easing confinement standards for animals raises production costs, making their businesses less competitive.

RIM: BlackBerry 10 carrier testing starts in October, OS remains on schedule

RIM BlackBerry 10 carrier testing starts in October, the OS itself is on track

Worried that RIM might face any further delays of BlackBerry 10? Don't be. CEO Thorsten Heins just confirmed at his BlackBerry Jam presentation that carrier testing for the new OS should begin this October, and that the platform launch is still slated for early 2013, as we were told this spring. As he's mentioned in the past, Heins believes carriers are "excited" about the BlackBerry update, implying that this is what's driving the certification process months in advance. Whether or not optimism is alive and well among providers, the news could be a relief for carriers and BlackBerry developers alike, either of which is likely keen to minimize the shift towards an Android-and-iPhone duopoly in the smartphone space.

Ex-Iran president's son returns from exile, faces charges

DUBAI (Reuters) - The son of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani returned to Iran from exile to answer charges of inciting unrest after a disputed election in 2009, fuelling speculation that Rafsanjani's influence in Tehran may once again be growing.

Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani arrived in Tehran late on Sunday, Fars news agency reported, having spent three years in the United Kingdom following his alleged involvement in the widespread protests that followed the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Mehdi Rafsanjani had spent several days in Dubai and been expected to return to Iran on Sunday, an independent source told Reuters.

Analysts say his return indicates a deal has been agreed with authorities to resolve the charges he faces, and suggests his father's political fortunes may be reviving.

Akbar Rafsanjani played a central role in the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran last month, being photographed walking alongside Iran's most powerful authority, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and sat next to U.N. Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon.

As oil sanctions continue to bite and with a presidential election set for next year, some are tipping the pragmatic yet conservative Rafsanjani as a surprise candidate.

The Rafsanjanis have faced heightened pressure from hardliners since the 2009 vote, which set off the deepest political crisis and worst unrest in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The former president is one of the founding figures of the Islamic Republic and a close aide to the revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

But his backing of opposition candidates in 2009 and sympathy for opposition demonstrators incurred the anger of conservatives and led to a decline in his influence.

Mehdi Rafsanjani's return comes 24 hours after another member of the powerful and wealthy Rafsanjani family, his sister Faezeh, began a six-month jail sentence for "spreading anti-state propaganda".

Her conviction at the start of this year is believed to be over an interview she gave to an opposition news site in which she criticized human rights violations and economic policy in Iran.

Tips To Prepare For The Painful Eventuality Of Hard Drive Data Loss ...

Accomplishing a Hard Drive Data Recovery?nowadays is easier as compared to a few years earlier. With the development of CDs, as well as external hard drives, making a back up of important records can easily be done. This makes hard drive data recovery a ton easier and simpler to do especially for technicians. Customers will not stress that much also if computer systems crash or disrupt because they know that they have prepared for it already.

Needing to recover hard drive data can certainly also be done by anybody at all simply and more easily, specifically with Computer Software?that allow for this. If you are using laptops for personal reasons some of these could actually be enough to save you woe when your computer breaks down. Such computer software and programs automatically make a back up of your jobs in storage. In the occurrence of a breakdown your most recent task is saved along with the earlier ones you?ve saved.

What is important with having computer software that retrieves hard drive data through a break down is that you install it right before it happens. It would be in vain to anticipate hard drive data recovery if you deploy the said computer programs after the computer system has already broken down.
For huge enterprises which heavily rely on computers to operate their business, you would commonly see an IT department which organizes this. The IT team is tasked to maintain disk drives to prevent chaos in the event of a home computer crash. When the inevitable break down happens these people are actually also assigned to repair as well as regain hard drives.

To recover hard drive data is possibly an easy task for IT professionals especially if they have prepared for that eventuality.

Sometimes, restoration using computer software as well as programs does not successfully recover hard drive data. When this happens to you, the leading thing to do is to take your computer to a specialist. Do not tinker much more on this because you might actually end up doing more injury than good. If there is a service center that furnishes on-call services then that is actually a better thing to do. You do not need to fall in a queue simply to have your equipment checked. The IT technician will be on your home within minutes. When deciding on a service provider for your hard drive data recovery operation choose a local business, one that is close to your home.

Important documents and files are actually irreplaceable. This is why thorough prevention and maintenance need to be put in place to prevent this from ever taking place. This is also the leading principle of most IT specialists requested to recover hard drive data. They carefully troop over your unit to prevent further loss of information and facts which could be irreversible.

At http://recover-hard-drive-data.org you will be to able read more info on hard drive data recovery.

Mobile Marketing Advice That You Don't Want To Miss | Eric Chua ...

Are you struggling to design a mobile marketing campaign that includes all of the major strategies? The advice you?ll discover in this article will give you a great head start to becoming a successful mobile marketer.

You have to understand that the type of mobile users you are addressing to is influenced by other markets. Stay up to date on the mobile market and adapt your own campaign. Older technology can turn away potential customers, so you will need to be informed on all new technologies in order to compete.

Keep your mobile campaign simple and useful to your audience. It is important to consider how long it takes to fill out the forms on any application a consumer could potentially use. Filling out paperwork online is simple but filling out the same form on a smartphone can be more tedious. Your mailing list should be easy for someone to opt-in to.

TIP! If there is a call to action in your mobile campaign, promote it to increase the success rate. Use all Internet resources to enhance your mobile marketing campaign.

A beta-testing period to see how effective and usable a marketing campaign will be is a good idea before the launch. Sending out ineffective messages is counterproductive. Additionally, try sending it to a test audience (e.g. co-workers) first to get feedback before you send it to your target audience.

Standard Website

You need to have a mobile website and a standard website for your mobile marketing. Some older phones require a mobile site to view properly and newer models can view a standard website, link to both in your mobile messages. Depending on the age of the phone your customer is using, they may not be able to access sites that use flash player.

TIP! To reach the truly tech-savvy consumers, use QR codes in your printed ads. This easily allows smartphone users to access your coupons and website.

You are going to use your plan across a multitude of different platforms, so be sure that you can maintain consistency. Your message must display properly on all three major smart-phone marketplaces: Android, Blackberry and iPhone. It can also save time and effort if you write simple, non-customized messages that suit every platform. Mobile marketing is no exception to the ?simpler is better? principle.

Work for your target market. Mobile marketing is based around knowledge of what your customers need and want. Find out what exactly your customers are looking for. If you want to be successful, you need to learn about them.

Try to gather as much marketing data about your intended mobile campaign recipients as possible, so that you can target their wants and needs. That way you?ll have a much higher chance of the recipients wanting to read your advertisements.

TIP! Incorporate quizzes, surveys or trivia into your mobile marketing strategy. Most people like to interact with quizzes that are sent to their cell phone.

Mobile marketing is a great way to increase your profits. Many people tend to use their phones to visit social network sites and download apps. These are highly-visible areas for business marketing. It enables you to reach so many more customers than traditional methods of marketing.

Be clear, simple, and concise. Keep it user friendly by keeping the clicks required to a minimum. Mobile keypads can be quite small, it can get frustrating to do too much typing. So keep your mobile marketing campaign at a minimum.

Mobile Marketing

TIP! You will have to learn more about mobiles and mobile websites to understand how you can optimize your material for a mobile platform. Head out to a cell phone store.

Location comes into play in mobile marketing. Your mobile customers can use their phones to quickly locate your store. These location-sensitive selling opportunities are unique to mobile marketing. Think about what this can mean for your business and how you may succeed with a location-aware strategy.

If you decide to incorporate SMS messaging as part of your mobile marketing campaign, you should clearly state how frequently messages will be sent when customers opt-in, and have an easy way to opt-out. A poor implementation of an SMS campaign can have a drastically negative impact due to the fact that receiving SMS messages triggers alerts on mobile devices. Most people will get tired of receiving messages from you if you intrude too often. You should make it an opt-in only system to be sure your SMS marketing efforts are successful and don?t overload your customers with constant texts. If you are trying to get customers to trust you, just be honest!

Qr Codes

TIP! Creating your own mobile app that provides real value to customers in your niche can really boost your sales. Any apps that give users helpful hints or useful information are wildly popular.

QR codes can help you make your content more appealing and accessible to customers. These QR codes are an excellent way to expand and entice your customers by offering coupons and discounts. All they need to use your QR codes is a cell phone. These codes make it easy to quickly deliver information about your company to your customers.

Think about creating an app for a phone. This will make your customers want to keep coming back to see what you have to offer, as the application will allow you to make note of any specials or sales going on. This can also increase your brand recognition and foot-traffic. You should seek professional help as you develop apps, this can help you in the long run.

As you can see, techniques in mobile marketing are quite different, but the basics are the same. They are different in terms of function and execution. When trying to decide which method will work best for you, you will want to use common sense and research. With these two tactics involved, you should be able to tell which one will fit well with your business and with your budget

TIP! You should link your website to your social media site to get more exposure. This will make it easier for your customers to find you.

Huawei's Windows Phone 8 handset outed as Ascend W1, supposed launch window surfaces

HTC, Nokia and Samsung have each showcased their initial volley of Windows Phone 8 handsets, but Huawei has yet to reveal the Ascend hardware it promised would run Microsoft's smartphone OS. The firm's Richard Yu took to the social network Sina Weibo and outed the device as the Ascend W1 earlier this week, but kept other specifics under wraps. Citing sources from within the company, Chinese language outlet Winp is now claiming that the W1 will ship between November and December, carry a price tag of 2,000 RMB ($317) and arrive in black, blue, pink and white hues. Though a September 25th unveiling is also rumored, Yu mentioned that Huawei will make it a habit of launching phones as they're unveiled, so it may be a while before the curtain is fully pulled back if the November / December window is correct.
