The mission of the LAC is to protect the legal and constitutional rights of noncitizens and to ensure that immigration law is interpreted and implemented in a manner that is sensible and humane. The LAC has established itself as a leader in litigation, information-sharing, and collaboration among immigration litigators across the country. The LAC is also one of the leading providers of legal resources for immigration advocates, including in-depth practice advisories, trainings and litigation meetings.
Your role -
This is a one-year fellowship that will focus on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The DACA Legal Services Fellow will work with the LAC Staff Attorney and the Associate Director of AILA?s Practice and Professionalism Center to develop, implement and oversee the provision of pro bono legal services to low-income individuals requesting DACA. The fellow will be responsible for the following:
- Build relationships with key pro bono stakeholders, including American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) chapter chairs and pro bono liaisons.
- Prepare and deliver public presentations to assist in recruiting law firms, attorneys and paralegals.
- Coordinate and assist in training volunteer attorneys regarding DACA and other possible avenues of relief, compile and distribute training materials and modules to assist AILA chapters and volunteer law firms to develop effective pro bono training.
- Assist in organizing DACA pro bono clinics around the country.
- Conduct outreach to provider community to advertise DACA program resources.
- Serve as point person for inquiries about DACA services from volunteers, legal service providers, and members of the public.
- Create and implement systems for monitoring ongoing DACA cases.
